About Adventure Camp

Kids learn through adventure and the best are had outdoors at Adventure Camp!

We started our school holiday camps firstly at Chowder Bay, Mosman in 2016. Our second camp opened at Northbridge Sailing club before choosing Cockatoo Island to be our third.  All of these sites were chosen for their close proximity to nature.  Adventure Camp is for boys and girls aged between 7 and 12.

We know that recent scientific studies have exposed the benefit — even necessity — of spending time outdoors. Most of these studies agree that kids who play outside are smarter, happier, more attentive and less anxious than kids who spend more time indoors. While it’s unclear how exactly the cognitive functioning and mood improvements occur, science has proven what all parents instinctively know: nature is good for children’s minds.

Living in a city, busy with work and activities, it can be hard to find the space to let kids explore nature or find the time to do it with them.  School holidays camps are great solutions for kids to learn stuff, make new friends and get looked after while you’re at work. As parents we want our kids to be able to gain great life skills and learn to feel safe and have fun outdoors. That’s why we started Adventure Camp.

Adventure Camp runs challenging outdoor and problem solving activities. These will teach your kids to appreciate diversification in one another’s personalities and skill sets. They will learn leadership skills and discover how to understand risk, make safe decisions and (most of all) have fun outdoors.  When learned in an outdoor setting, these core skills have been proven in kids to build confidence and responsibility. They also promote creativity and imagination.

A historical Sydney storyline, based around a famous individual or event, flows through the three day camp. At the end of each activity the kids discover a clue.  On the last day these clues come together enabling the kids to solve a mystery.

During the camp, your kids will partake in land and water activities and initiatives.  The day is generally broken up into four separate periods with plenty of breaks plus time for lunch, morning & afternoon tea.

Each Adventure Camp is run by highly experienced staff and instructors - that often work with children on a daily basis.   All staff hold a minimum current First Aid certificate and have completed a  ‘Working with Children’ check.

Initiative based activities are built around team building and problem solving and have one instructor for a maximum of 15 kids.  For activities such as rafting, snorkeling, or swimming there is a minimum of one instructor per 10 kids.

For specialist activities, such as sailing at Northbridge, we have sailing instructors and use different safety ratios that are appropriate to that activity.

Should it rain, we will proceed with as many activities as safe (it is an Adventure Camp after all!) - for rainy days, please bring the kids to the same drop off location as normal.

As Mark Twain said:

“Throw off the bow lines, sail away from safe harbour, catch the trade winds in your sails, explore, dream discover”.

Let your kids experience this at Adventure Camp.
